The Importance of Copywriting in Digital Marketing

More often than not, as a digital media consumer, you will see sponsored ads catered to your behavior online. Out of the hundreds of sponsored post you see a month, have you actually notice how many of them have a dismal copywriting for the post? Not sure if you’re aware of it or not, but one of the key ways to identify a scam online is by the amount of errors in their copy. That being said, let's dive into the world of copywriting, and how it actually affects the performance of your ads online (I’m sure some of it applies offline too).

What is copywriting?

Copywriting is the activity or occupation of writing the text of advertisements or publicity material. A copy is where your targeted audience gets additional information on your advertisement after they have been enticed by your artwork. A good copy has to accurately convey your message and be able to capture the attention of a potential customer, leading them to click on the CTA button.

Relationship between copywriting and scammers

Online scams are initiated by the scums on earth and should be put to a stop as soon as possible. Nevertheless, despite the hefty penalty imposed there will always be people preying on the gullible and trying their best to manipulate and cheat you. In many cases, one of the surefire signs that the online ad is a scam is when there are jarring grammar and language errors in the post. The scammers use Google Translate to translate their post to multiple languages, to target multiple demographics at the same time. If you’re familiar with Google Translate, you will know that it can be used as a reference and to translate words and short sentences. Not entire posts.

Now imagine this: You’ve been working hard on an online campaign. You got a nice artwork designed and now it is time to post it online. You come up with content for your artwork and it seems good to you, even though the reality is that it is filled with spelling errors and grammar mistakes. Do you see where I’m going with this?

Bad copywriting actually makes your genuine promotion seem like a scam. If you need someone to read through your content and give you real honest opinions on it, Catalyst Edge stands at the ready.

Copywriting and your brand’s image

Bad copywriting makes your brand seem very unprofessional and gives the impression that you are a small organisation. Have you ever seen a Mc Donald’s or a Coca-Cola ad that has language problems? One of the first chances you get to engage your target market is through your copywriting. Make sure it accurately conveys your message and is able to capture your potential customer’s attention. Don’t make them judge you poorly based on poor quality write-ups.

Less is More

This is a good rule to follow whenever you are coming up with contents for an online ad. Online ad spaces are generally small and have insufficient space for a long copy. Even if you have the space, you should consider not cramming excessive information into the post, making it hard for your customers to digest the information. It makes your ad less effective. Focus on getting one or two key ideas across. You have a limited time to grab a potential customer’s attention so make sure the message is clear and compelling.

Information Accuracy

Giving wrong information in your ads due to poor copywriting is something you should avoid completely. Make sure you have proofread your content before posting it online. It’s hard to shake off a reputation of being deceitful, especially if your false advertisement actually captured the attention of many users online.
